I THE TIMARU F!F!E. AN OPEN VERDICT. TIMARTJ, Jan. 22. A magisterial inquiry was held to-day into the circumstances 'if the fire in John Edmond's store on the evening of I New Year's Day, which destroyed or damaged from six to seven thousand pounds' worth of the ironmongery stock. An open verdict was.returned. The only evidence that had direct bearin q: on the question of origin was that of H. G. Keith, a traveller for the firm, and Hayes, a shop assistant, who were in the store about half-an-hour before the fire was discovered. They both noticed on entering a slight smell as of smouldering fire. They made an inspection of the premises, but eould detect nothing. A RAILWAY THIEF. ROTOTUTA. Jan. 22.
