LATE COMMERCIAL.
CORE STOCK SALE. The usual fortnightly stock sale took place at the Gore yards to-day. There was a small entry, mostly confined to fat sheep, which were disposed of in small lots. The quality on the whole was poor, being chiefly fattened aged ewes, but notwithstanding this prices were well maintained; in fact, what might be termed good. There were only a couple of pens of store sheep and one pen of ewes and lambs, the latter j being passed in. I The Southland Farmers' Co-operative j Association sold 55 fat ewes at 13s 9d; jl6 do, 13s; .13 fat wethers. 14 s 10d ; 223 I store ewes, a fairly even lot, at 15s Bd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company: 22 fat ewes, 4 and 6-tooth, at 14s Rd; 12 fat ewes, 12s 8d; 16 do, 13s 2d; 28 fat owes and wethers, 13s 2d; 16 fat ewes, 12s 8d; 14 fat ewes and wethers, 15s 4d; 175 2-tootli ewes and wethers. 13s 7d. Henderson and Co. sold 21 fat ewes j'"d wethers, 16s 3d; and 15 lambs, 10s 9d. Wriiht, Stephenson and Co. sold 11 •1 and 6-tooth fat wethers at 16s Id; 15 lambs, 12s 6d; 9 ewes, lis 2d; 40 4, 6 and R-tooth ewes, 15s 8d ; 62 2-tooth wethers, 12s Rd: 13 2-tooth ewes, 14s; and nassed in 104 ewes and lambs at 7s 6d. The National Mortgage and Agency Co. sold 30 4 and 6-tooth ewes at 15» lOd. CATTLE. There was a fairly largo entry of cattle, mostly store sorts. There was only a small attendance at this section of the sale, which was very draggy, and the values placed on entries was in excess of what would-be purchasers were inclined to give. Tho result was that several lots were passed in. Tho Xational Mortgage and Agency Company sold three fat steers at £8 10s; one fat cow, £5 12s 6d; one fat heifer. £5; four store heifers, £3 2s 6d; one dairy cow, £4 10s; one do, £3 Is; and nassed in one heifer at £3 6s. J. E. Watson and Co. sold one dairy cow at £B. Henderson and Company sold one steer at £5 17s 6d; one fat cow, £5; one bull, £2; one cow, £5 10s; and passed in one fat cow at £7 ss; four fat heifers at £6; and 30 fat and forward •tccrs and heifers at £7 ss. The demand for all descriptions was exceedingly keen, especially in *he Ct ntinontal section. The market is tending to harden, especially for wools suited to America.
