CYCLING.

GORE CLUB. I The annual general meeting of the Gore Cycling Club was held on Thursday evening in Mr J. Hargest's office. ; Mr Geo. Whittingham was voted to the ! chair. ,1 ; Annual Report. -1 The following report was read by the secretary (Mr T. A. Christie) for tho year ended August 1: The club opened I the season early in November with two | road races which brought out some projmising riders, and the interest evinced | by the public in the events was very eujcouraging to the committee, with tho j result that we felt that we had the .'public in our favor and put fonh, J greater efforts towards popularising th v i sport. The very successful result oi our season's work seems to justify tho.* efforts. We held a number of road ra;-es as well as a regular sports gathering on the Gore A. and i\ Association's grounds on March 8, and although .hv riders had to put up wuh the disadvantage ot a fairly rough grass track some good races were got oii with some wry close and interesting finishes. Included in the programme were a uumbor vi interesting and amusing events. \\ 'twould recommend to tho incoming t\>:,: mittee the inclusion of as many si: eveuts as possible on future pro grammes. The cmb was fortunate \i having cur leal champion, Mr W. K Trembath, convpothig m the illicit.;, eve.its. vV'o haw to thank the in;'.;.-.-citizens of Gore who so willingly c.-.n tributed tn.ph .>, ■■.. .1 < -ish ti.vvasda or prise lis;, r.r.d to ti.-ei.- l!lk>:al rss'sLancwe owe in a grea-L ;i:easiure tho ver; satisfactory state of the balanco-she'.'t To Mr J. Hargest we also owe thanks for the use of his oifice'for mee.ing l '- throughout the season. As will be s-.;c|i from the balance-sheet, the club is" elea;of debt and has a balance in the Post Office Savings Hank of £lO as well as 10s lid cash in hand. Tire committee would like to see the club go ahead still further this year and at the same tin™ provide good, clean sport for the young j men that are coming on to. take tho| place of the "old timers." There are a | few of our "old timers" such as Mr I Adam Hoffman who deserve thanks I: from the club for their assistance both j. iu organising the club and for compot-! ing, thus making the events more in-!; teresting, even though in many cases'' they had to give away too much in I handicap to the new blood. |

Balance-Sheet. The following are the receipts and expenditure for the year:— Receipts.—Cash in hand, £6 Os lOd; members' subscriptions, £4 10s; donations (trophies), £lB 8s; donations (cash), £22 14s 6d; entry money, £l7 18s; gates, £l4 os; sundries £5 14s 6d —total, £B9 10s lOd. Expenditure.—License and fees, £3 6s j prize money, £24 3s; trophies value £l9 10s 6d; rent, £3 2s; printing and advertising, £10; sundries, £9 18s sd; P.O. Savings Bank, £l9; cash in hand, 10s lid—total, £B9 10s lOd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of Messrs G. Whittingham and Borley. Mr Whittingham thought tho club had done very w?ll to come out with a credit balance of £l9 odd, and although, in view o iche fact that some £36 had been donated in cash and trophies, it might have been possible to have shown a larger credit balance, still the competitors had reaped the benefit in better prizes; and as the primary object of running sports meetings was to supply good, clean athletic competition for our young men he thought that the money had been well spent.

Election of Officers. The election of officers was then proceeded with and the following gentlemen were elected subject to their consent to act: Patron, Mr G. J. Anderson. M.P.; president, Mr F. Wallis (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs B J. Faitt, D. M. Cachrane, Geo. Whittingham, J. Hargest, F. O'Neill and Jas. McCorkindale; treasurer and handicapper, Mr J. Baldwin (re-elected); secretary, Mr A. E. Borley; committee, Messrs G. H. Hamilton, H. C. Mac Gibbon, G. Wallen, Jas. Walders, F. Vickery, A. Hoffman, Thomas Spence, A. Spence, S. Baldwin, P. Milburn, A. Nicolson, W. Nicolson, C. Bowmast, L. Rhodes, E. J. McDowell, A. Cuff, W. F. Trembath, J. D. Forbes, Walter Christie, Geo. Wallace, Peter Mallon and A. McColl, with power to add. General. It was decided that the members' tickets be issued at the usual fee of 2s 6d, entitling member and lady friend to obtain admittance to the annual sports meeting as well as to the ordinary privileges of the club.

It was decided to inaugurate a series of road races, to be followed by a sports meeting which will be held on a suitable date probably in February. The first road race will take place on Monday, January 22, from the railway station, Gore, to Charlton and back, prizes and trophies to be arranged. Entries for this event will close with Mr A. E. Borley (secretary) on Saturday, January 20. The secretary was instructed to ascertain the dates of the Mataura and Gore Flower Shows, school excursions, etc., to avoid clashing of dates. A full meeting of the club will be held immediately after the road race to go into the question of the sports meeting. Messrs Jas. McCorkindale and Wm. Baker were appointed to act as starters and Messrs Hargest and Christie as judges. On the motion of Mr Geo. Whittingham an enthusiastic vote of thanks was accorded to those citizens who so generously gave donations of cash and trophies to the club last year. Mr Whittingham said he thought the public had contributed very handsomely indeed, and he hoped thoy would go a step further this year and join in and help to "run the show."

T. A. Christie), who in returning thanks mentioned that those who were more intimately connected with the working of the club would know that a good deal of the praise was due to Mr J. Baldwin, who had done a very large share of the work and had done it well.
