SONGS FROM A SAND-BIN.
A laborer, H. Newman, appeared before Mr Plowden at Marylebone Police Court on a charge of being drunk and disorderly. A police constable said that about nine o'clock at' night he found the 'accused lying in a sand-oin at tho side of the road singing at the top of his voice. He pulled him out, but the accused resented his interference and claimed that he had a perfect right to lie there as he was a ratepayer. Mr Plowden: Was he comfortable? —Yes, pretty comfortable; he was lying in a basket of cocoa-nut fibre. Mr Plowden : And chanting? (Laughter.) And did you disturb this happy state of things?— Yes, and found he was drunk, and as he claimed a right to stay there and would not go away T arrested him. Newman urged that he was tired and incapable of looking after himself. Mr Plowden: Well, if you will promise not .to go back to the dust-bin I will discharge you. Newman promised and was discharged.
