SCHOOL VACATIONS.

WENDON. The annual picnic in connection with the "break-up" at Wendon school took place on the 22nd inst. There was a good attendance of parents, and the afternoon was spent most pleasantly with games, races, etc. Afternoon tea [was provided by the ladies. Junior Boys' Race: A. Cromie 1, E. Hamilton 2, G. Stevenson 3. Junior Girls' Race: J. Millar 1, K. Monaghan 2, F. Stevenson 3. Upper Primer Boys' Race: H. Cromie 1, E. Walker 2, W." Millar 3. Upper Primer Girls' Race: V. Walker 1, N. Monaghan 2, D. Campbell 3. Lower Primer Boys' Race: P. Stanton 1, J. Stanton 2, P. Monaghan 3. Lower Primer Girls' Race: I. Millar 1, 0. Campbell 2, E. Graham 3. Young Ladies' Race (under 18): A. Robertson 1, J. Robertson 2, V. White 3. Young Ladies' Race (over 18): M. Johnstone 1, C. White 2, A. Johnstone 3. Married Ladies' Race: Mrs Graham 1, Mrs Walker 2, Mrs Stanton 3. After the races were over Mr A. McKay (chairman of the School Committee) presented the prize books awarded during the year, and referred to the good work done by the teachers (Mr Gazzard and Miss Winning) and the children. Rev. J. Maclnnes and Mr Gazzard also spoke. The children under Miss Winning gave two songs, which were greatly enjoyed. Before dispersing three cheers were given for the School Committee, who provided the trophies for running, books, etc., and for the teachers. School will not commence again until February 6.
