DISTRICT NEWS.

CENTRAL LINDKURST. With the improvements of the wea-' , ther lately everyone has become busy, shearing and getting the turnip crops in mainly occupying attention. A good portion of both is already completed but there is much yet to bo done. j The lambing was good, although in some cases not up to expectations. However, Mr Douglas, our veteran sheep- \ man, obtained a percentage of 150, of which we are very pleased to hear. Regarding the oat crops, the season so far seems to have favored the ridges j rather than the flats, as everywhere 'they are looking well. Viewed from the j road Mr R. Goodwin's fields are quite a j pleasure to look upon, while the successive areas on both sides are looking equally well, Messrs Macintosh Bros.' Tartar Kings, if anything, looking rather more forward. Although a late harvest is expected all anticipate a good yield. A further contract far the gravelling of Mataura-Glencoc r<;;>d has been lot, and Mr T. Onpd's tend;- lias been successful. This will carry tho gravelled road past Howarlh's cufceing and be of vast benefit to ;lve enabling vehicles to surmount Ihe difficulty o! this steep pine!;. Noedk-ss to say, commencement of Ihe w.>vh will be hailed with undoubted pleasure by all concerned. A:; iinportniii .-id j (>-.•;<■■: h:\< b'*en added to the Titipua Church in the shape of an organ, Christmas Sunday being the event upon which the fii-pf sweet strains flowed from its depths. Manipulation of the keyboard was nccompjislied by Miss A. Ross, who played the hymns very well indeed. Some time ago the Sunday-school mot for the purpose of raising funds for an organ, and it was decided that an active campaign should be inaugurated. A committee was quickly in operation and the school soon obtained the necessary amount. Great praise is due to Mrs R. Goodwin and Mrs S. Ross for their energetic work and untiring attention in bringing the campaign to so successful an issue. The organ is now at the disposal of church "services and functions, alleviating a much-felt want. The district expresses the season's compliments to the columns and to the editor, with hearty wishes for a successful run through the New Year.— [Our correspondent's kindly wishes are heartily reciprocated.—Ed. M.E.]
