The steamer Toroa, from the Macquarie Islands, brought the captain and crew of Mr Hatch's schooner Clyde, which was wrecked on the island, also a quantity of oil find some sails. These and the other salvage, though very little was saved, will be shipped to New Zealand. The Clyde went ashore early one morning, drifting close in. The crew reached the land safely with little difficulty. FIRE ON A STEAMER. Received December 28, 9.55 a.m. . SYDNEY, Dec. 28. 1 A fire on the Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Pareora, which is lying in the harbor, was extinguished by the crew. A quantity of timber and a lamp locker wer«* damaged. FIRE ON A MAILBOAT. COMPELS RETURN TO PORT. i Received December 28, noon. ROME, Dec. 27. Fire was discovered among the mails of the P. and O. Company's Isis when she was two hours out from Brindisi. The outbreak was due to a short circuit. The ship returned to Brindisi and the brigade was engaged all night in extinguishing the flames. The Isis has resailed The English portion of the mail was not affected.
