ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.
PATHE PICTURES. There was a holiday audience at the Dominion Hall last evening, when die Patlte Picture Company under the direction of Mr A. W. McLean submitted a really first-class programme, embracing subjects of all descriptions from dramatic to comic. Of the dramatic subjects "Short-lived Happiness," "The Tumbler's Wife," and "The Geranium" were nice stories, and in the conr'c division "A Country Cupid" and "Calir.o, Foreman of Works," were entertaining, though the effect of the latter film was somewhat marred in screening it. Other excellent films were ''Football at Home," u Pathe Gazette," "Ice Effects," "Water Lilies," and "The Wonderful Eye." STEVENSON'S PICTURES. Owing to the alterations which are being made in the Town Hall there will be no exhibition of Stevenson's pictures this week. CONVERSAZIONE AT OTAMA. A most enjoyable conversazione was held under the auspices of the Otaina Ladies' Guild in the' Otama Hall on Christmas night. The weather was all that could be desired and there was a record attendance. Rev, A. Hardie occupied the chair and briefly explained the objects of the gathering. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte duet. Mesda-mes Regan and Maxwell: solo, Mr G. Mackenzie; recitation, Mr V. Hartley ; solo, Miss Mary Gerken; pianoforte solo, Mr Stanley Dunn ; solo, Mr Wavte; instrumental item., Mr and Mrs J. Blaikie; solo, Mr Moffatt; pianoforte duet, Miss Myrtle Dunn and Master Dunn ; .solo, Mr Geo. Wilson; part song, Misses Archibald and White, Mrs Napier, Messrs Napier, Marshall and Hardie; solo, Mr Green ; duet, Mrs Bruce and Mr W. Dunn; solo, Mr John Blaikie; part song, "Christmas Carol." Supper was provided by the ladies. Votes of thanks were accorded the ladies and the tea boiler 011 the motion of Mr J. Dunn and the performers on the motion of Mr R. Byars. The gathering was brought to a. close by the singing of the Doxology. CONCERT AT BALFOUR. The proceedings in connection with the Balfour Caledonian Society's sports were appropriately wound up last evening by a dance in the Public Hall. The music was supplied by Mr and Mrs Tregonning (violin and piano) and Mr Sligo (flute). Mr R. Grant made an efficient M.C.
