A MAGNIFICENT SPECTACLE.

A review of 50,000 British and In-, dian troops made a magnificent spectacle lasting an hour and a-half. In the afternoon a great audience assembled in the vesture tent. An hour before the King was due a cry of fire was raised and the glow of fire through the tent caused the crowd to rise. They 'threatened to rush the doors, but cries of "Sit down!" steadied the audience and it was discovered that a neighboring tent had caught fire owing to the explosion of a bicycle lamp. The burning tent was isolated and the excitement subsided. The King, wearing the robes and the Star of India, invested the Queen with the Grand Cross. Two hours of picturesque ceremony followed, 93 knights and 200 companions and members of different orders being decorated.

TANGIER, Dec. 15

Most of the passengers by the Delhi (which is stranded at Capo Sjpartel, near .Gibraltar) escaped half-naked. The did their'best to relieve them. The jewel case of the Princess Royal waa washed from a boat and lost. Three Lascars were drowned while taking passengers through the surf. After five had landed almost all the boats were capsized owing to the heavy surf, and the passengers waded waist-deep. The last passenger was rescued by means of a rocket apparatus.

A FEDERAL LOAN BILL

MELBOURNE, Dec. 15

In the House of Representatives Mr Fisher (Prime Minister) introduced the first Federal Loan Bill of £2,460,476, whereof it is proposed to expend £600,000 on the Commonwealth offices in London, £1,000,000 towards the cost of construction of the Port Augusta-Kal-goorlie railway, and £600,000 for acquisition of land in the Federal territory. He said that, though it was a Loan Bill, it was not necessary to ask lor money here or elsewhere; there were sufficient funds available under the Australian votes trust fund to cover this expenditure. The fund was accumulating rapidly and the amount of interest available at the end of five years would be at least £1,000,000. The Government proposed to create a sinkin? fund of i per centum in connection with the loan.
