1 CHRISTCHURCH PRODUCE. PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. There is no change to note in the local grain market, there being practically no wheat or nots offering by growers and no business of any extent. doing between merchants. Prices are without quotable change. Wheat is still ranging from 3s 6d to 3s 7d for hunters and tuscan at country stations.. Chaff remains firm at 90s at country stations. The only move is in potatoes, which have advanced to 40s at country stations. There are some orders in from the North Island, and as merchants Slave not been holding any stocks they have had to advance the price in order to obtain supplies, as growers are indifferent about selling at a lower fig- , •ore. It is stated that the laying up of the small coastal steamers is also having some effect upon the potato ' market, as it is preventing the shipment of potatoes to the smaller ports in the North Island. Potatoes at this late date in the season are not keeping well and require to be shipped from the pit, and hence there are no stocks in merchants' hands. The low prices ruling lately and the uncertainty of the market have also been against forward purchases to any extent. There is still a fairly large quantity here held by growers. DEARER PROVISIONS. WANGANUI, Oct. 13. As a consequence of the shipping strike goods have to be railed to Wanganui. Owing to this extra cost wholesale houses announce an increase in the prices-of general provisions.
