GORE COMMERCIAL REVIEW. , 'Ensign' Office, May 26. Very few oats are offering at ' ti® present time, and the market is . .r.firmest late rates. The recent railway figUkfa"- disdofce the fact-that compared with this time last year 70,0UU sacks more grain have been carried over the railways in Southland. From this it appears that the Southland crop this year has either been an exceptionally heavy one or farmers have been taking advantage of the good prices ruling And disposing of their produce earlier in the year. If the latter is the case, it is reasonable to assume that oats will advance further in price, unless the large number of stacks that are kept for chaff are threshed in the spring, which would have a decided effect on the market. At the present time A Gartons are worth from 2s lJd to 2s 2d on trucks i and A Grade Sparrowbills from 2s Id to 2s l*d. Feed oats are in fair demand at 2s Id. Chaff.—At the present time there is a large quantity of chaff offering but considering the good prices obtainable for oats, as stated above ; holders may be induced to thresh instead of saving for chaff. It the oat market improves further chaff is bound to rise in sympathy. At the present time the Dunedin market, which is the only outlet, is well stocked, and prices ruling are about £4 5s Dunedin, which is equal to £3 10s to £3 12s 6d nett at sidings. Wheat.—Merchants state that there is very little wheat offering from growers,: and it is evident that most of the lines are now in second hands. Choice .Velvet is saleable at 3s 3d on trucks while 3s 2d can be obtained for good S,ed Wheat. Although the Australian markets are slightly weaker, the general opinion is that wheat is good property, even at present prices. UNITED STATES MEAT CONTRACT. PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.
