ATHLETICS.

CROYDON SCHOOL PICNIC. 'I be Croydon school picnic took place on Wednesday (writer, onr correspondent), and was a great success. There was a large attendance, and as the weather cleared at mid-day everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The residents of the surrounding district subscribed liberally and aiso turned out well to support the gathering. The committee wish to thank a number of Gore business linns for handsome donations to the prize fund. The refreshments, which Here abundant and of excellent quality, were provided by the ladies, among whom were several visitors, and the thanks of all are due to them for the manner in which they attended to the wants of everybody. Mr G. Gutschlag with his bagpipes added greatly to the afternoon's enjoyment. The children's races were too numerous to permit of detailed mention, every race being run off until each child bad Avon a prize, and everybody who took part won something during the day. A dance was hold in the school at night and was well attended, Mr W. Richardson supplying tiie music in his usual good style. Subjoined are the results of the adult events, which evoked keen competition, notably the senior married ladies and the young men's races, the prize for the latter being a trophy presented by Mr Robert Johnston, of the Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., which turned out to be a patent feeding bottle with all necessary fittings complete. The winner was J. O'Kecfe, J. Manson being second and W. Outsell third. The results of the other races follow: Married Ladies (senior): Mrs J. Abernethy 1, Mrs Hewlett 2, Mrs MacI donald 3, Mrs W.
