TAPANUI RACES. FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. The tirst day oi' the Tapanui Racing Club's annual meeting was held yesterday, the weather being showery. There was a fair attendance, though the public did not seem to be inclined to bet when the fields were small, but on the other hand, when they wcro good, speculation was brisk, and in some cases where the favorites did not get home the dividends were not to be despised. The sum of £1269 was put through the machine, as against £1375 last year. Three bookmakers paid the club's fee of £2O 10s to be allowed to bet, and seemed to do good business. The racing was interesting, some good finishes being witnessed, which testified to the good work of Mr A. Jones (handic.apper). The starting was in the capable hands of Mr F. PEE UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. The final day of the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting opened in , windy and cloudy weather. The attendance was on the small side. Some , good racing was witnessed during the day. The totalisator figures for the afternoon were £16,313 10s, as against £17,538 for the corresponding day of last year. The total invested for the meeting was £52,004, as compared with £51,062 for the 1910 summer meeting. Twenty bookmakers were licensed.
