GORE METHODIST CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The circuit quarterly meeting of the Gore Methodist Church was held last evening. There was a good attendance X of office-bearers and Rev. Win. Greenslade presided. The membership roll showed an increase of four, on the quarter. The state of the finances considering the " number of wet Sunday evenings ex- * perienced was considered to be satisH factory, the debit balance on the quar- j •: - ter being £4. It was resolved to reI commend members to adopt the enveI lope system of contributions. It was I also resolved to hold the annual gift l| Sunday during the incoming quarter, i. . and to invite Mr Marshall (Rhodes E? scholar for 1911) to conduct the serff, vices on that day. j| The chairman reported on the pros' gress of the work at the Mataura end of the circuit, and stated that steps I would shortly be taken to hold a meeting with a view to having a church ' erected. The former resolution passed • by the quarterly meeting was affirmed \ requesting the conference, which will "-. meet at Christchurch next month, to »> appoint an agent at Mataura. It was P decided that the establishment of a \ weekly service at Mataura be left in |k the hands of the chairman and circuit stewards, to commence not later than : the end of the present quarter. Mr E. C. Smith was elected circuit representative to Conference. Messrs !D. Bennett and Wheeler and Miss Wright were elected society stewards at Mataura and the Gore office-bearers were re-elected for the year. On the motion of Messrs E. C. Smith and Martin the congratulations of the meeting on behalf of the congregation were extended to Mr and Mrs C. R. Bowmar on having the previous week celebrated the 50th anniversary of their ,wedding. Mr Bowmar briefly replied, expressing his thanks, and gave a short and interesting address on "Things Then and Now," the comparison being decidedly in favor of present-day conditions.
