Gutchkoff, the newlyelected President of the Duma, to a month's detention in a * fortress for fighting a duel with Count Uwaroff. The latter was sentenced to three weeks' detention under arrest in the Central Guardhouse. M. Gutchkoff (the Octobrist leader) fought as a sergeant in the Boer ranks against Great Britain. He is unpopular in Court circles owing to his denunciation of the occupation by the Grand Dukes of, the highest posts in the Army.
