STEVENSON'S PlCTl'li KS. The increasing popularity of Stovonson's Pictures was evidenced l ist night, when the Dominion Hall was tilled witn an enthusiastic audience who indicated their unbounded approval of the programme submitted. A ooniprohousi\ o series of films was shown, one of unusual interest depicting his late Majesty King Edward YU. opening the last British Parliament. This was an impressive scene and alforded a splendid idea of the ceremony. Another fine description picture was that showing a marble quarry at St. Hout. The dramatic and humorous element was strongly represented, one of tile host of the former being "The Sins of tli > Fathers," the story of a mountain feud. "The Heroine of Matching" was also a study that was responsible for sustained interest.. "Calino goes Travelling" and "Eoolshoad goes to a Ball" were well calculated to amuse, and as the progress of events was displayed were greeted with roars of laughter. Many other lilms, entertaining and instructive, wero shown. The musical arrangements, in the hands of Mr Laidlaw, were in good taste. Tito proprietary will reappear next Thursday with a complete change of items.
PUKEPAIT LITKiiARY Chi 11. The Pukerau Literary and Social Club held its second meeting in the hull on Wednesday evening, about JS."> members attending. The president .(Mr Joseph Craigic) occupied the chair, and about nine new members were enrolled. The subject for the evening was a debate: "Which is the better life, Town or Country." Mr Jas. Horror;, supported by Mrs Joseph Craigie, took the side of the town ami Mr Young and Mrs McPherson that of the country. An animated and interesting debate followed, a wide area of ncil-stndied matter being traversed bv the leaders and the subject well discussed by the rest of the meeting. The chairman then summed up, and on putting the matter to the meeting the vote was carried in favor of the town by a majority of three. The next meeting will take the form of impromptu speaking and a social evening.
