SHIPPING LOSSES. £200,000. Received March 17, 9.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 17. Though the Newcastle strike is over it is unlikely that full supplies of coal will be available for some weeks.
During the strike the inter-State companies had fifty steamers laid up and thirty of these are still idle. Dockina and getting them into running order will mean a further large outlay. The_ total losses of the intcY-Stat< and Union Steam Ship companies ovei the strike is estimated to be £200,000.
