The steamer Katanga, which arrived from the islands yesterday, i'o)>ortß that tho Savaai volcano at Samoa has been unusually active of late. A severe earthquake was felt in tho group at the end of January. Tlx' seismograph in Mulinu, Samoa, has registered several severe earthquake- shocks lately, the whole of them lieing within a few miles of tho group. On Wednesday, the liltli inst., a violent eruption occurred which lasted lor a space of ahout sixty minutes. The centre of shock was probably in the Solomons.
