A man named Henry Stephen Coburn, charged with distributing for sale certain obscene printed matter, namely, New Zealand Truth,' was to-day committed for trial. At the Magistrate's Court to-day the hearing was concluded of cases in which Cecil Mcßean Brown was charged with assaulting a married woman and a girl near Eskdale with intent to commit rape, and Roderick Alexander Greenaway with abetting him. Both accused reserved their defence, and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. AUCKLAND, Jan. 19. Percy F. Batley, a solicitor, was found at his home m Arawa street to-day suffering from the effect of laudanum. He died within an hour. Deceased leaves a wife and two children.
