At the meeting of the Riversdak Public Picnic Committee, held in the Athenaeum on Saturday night, a lengthy discussion took place as to the advisability of holding athletic sports instead of the usual picnic. The general opinion was that the time was too short for such a departure this" year, and it was decided to call a public meeting after the holidays to decide the question for the future. In the meantime the picnic on New Year's Day would be made as much like a sports gathering as funds would permit. The following officials were appointed to carry out the preparations :—For adult sports: Messrs E. Butler, W. Daker, jun., W. Kelly, and F. Sutherland; for children's sporfs: D,r Watt, Messrs J. Templeton. sen.. A. Murdoch; handicapper: Mr J. Smaill; starter: Mr. D. McLennan; nail-driving competition: Messrs W. McKay, gen., and J. Currie; secretary: Mr Geo. Watt.
