The Chilian navy is administered bv an Admiralty under a Director-General ot Navy. Anihal Rodriguez. The personnel is raised by conscription, but. there is in addition a proportion of volunteers. The oilieer.s and men on the active naval list number about 8000. Her strength in ships built on October 01. I'luft, was: Battleship. I; coast dctence ship, 1 ; armored cruisers, 2; protected cruisers, o (including a training ship which recently visited New Zealand): torpedo gunboats. 3: torpedoboat destroyers, 0: torpedo boats, o first class and 3 second class.
