Replying to questions in tho House of Commons Mr McKenna (First Lord of tlie Admiralty), speaking on behalf of Mr Asquitii (Prime Minister), stated that for all practical purposes the American Navy did not enter into tho Government's calculations regarding standard. , COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY. 1 LONDON, April 18. Mr Asquith's committee set up to inquiro into the disposition and organisation of the Home fleets examined Mr R. McKenna (First Lord of the Admiralty), !Sir John Fisher (First Sea Lord) and (Lord Charles Beresford '(who lately retired from the command of tho Channel squadron). ; The latter will be permitted to call ; what witnesses jho chooses, except 1 commanders, 'the witnesses being guaranteed that their ovidouce will i lie no bar to promotion.
