NEW ZEALAND'S TRADE.
VEU t'NITKD rUKSS ASSOCIATION. , AUCKLAND, March l'J. Hie opinion is expressed amongst Auckland exporters that, to far as can bo judged from tho cabled reports, America's revised tariff will bo more tavorablo to New Zealand than the last tariff.
A prominent woollen merchant and hide exporter stated to a reporter today tliat tho benefits to the trade of tbe Dominion would accrue from tho reduction of the duly on third-class wool and the admission free to the tinted Slate, of hides and tallow. Hitherto, lie said, American wool buyers had not boon buying any but our first-class wools because thev'could not altord to pay the duly of'.id per lb. upon any but the best classes. With the reduction of the duty on third-class tlio buyer, from America were certain to eomo in lor that quality. At nil the wool sales, he said, American buyers had hitherto passed anything dingy, unskilled or carrying dirt, and would not even value it. Regarding the ri* moval ot tho duty on hides, tho same gentleman remarked that this would mean an increase in their value here of _ probably Id per lb. 'J he representative of another linn which oxjwrts largely to America said that, whilst tho reduction of duty on third-class wools would undoubtedly be beneficial to New Zealand, it was a pity that wool of all classes was not to bo admitted free, because a big trade could bo done between the Dominion and America. He was very glad to see that the duty on hides had been taken oIF. This meant rlipaper leather.
