Ji appears Miat two persons tAliss Parker and her brother), daughter and son of Mr Christopher Parker, slnvpfariuei\ of kiisborne. who were spending a holidav at Wairoa, were attempting to negotiate Stewart's crossing in a buggv . when the vehicle and horses I w ere swept -away by the Hooded stream. .Miss Parker was drowned, but her brother was saved.
