ADDINGTON WORKSHOPS.

Evidence was given at the inquiry before the Commission to-day regarding the Addington Workshops by several workmen. J. S. Clarke, foreman fitter, who had been in all the largo shops in the Dominion, said the discipline at Addington was as good as at any he had been in.
\V. H. Cole, foreman blacksmith, said the stall of smiths was the finest in New Zealand. There was also n good staff in Ihe forgo department. John Harbourmoulding shop foreman, said the plant at Addington was as good as in any of the jobbing shops he had worked in. The workshop practice at Addington was far superior to that in many American shops. Hold. 11. AleEwan, a turner, stated men at the Clyde works (Scotland) worked harder than those at Addinglon. This was due entirely to the bonus system.

Witness had not seen any idling ns a general thing at Addington. A new shop should be erected for the construction of new locomotives.
