'—i Professor William Edward Ayrtou, the celebrated electrical engineer, is dead, aged 01 (states a London cable). On Saturday evening at the Gore branch of Messrs Thomson and Beattie, Miss Foster, on the occasion of her leaving the firm latter five years faithful service as head dressmaker, was presented with a handsome lady's toilet set by the firm ami -employees, as a mark of their appreciation. The local manager (Mr J. Thomson) referred in complimentary terms to Miss Foster's Sterling character, spoke of the good feeling that had always existed between her and her fellow employees, and wished her every success in the future,
