HKUI COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Nov, 9. The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, November 5, is as follows: Mutton.—Market weak and dull, on account of heavy arrivals from the Continent. New Zealand stocks are firmly held in few hands, and are quoted at 3Jd for Canterbury brands and 3-Jd for North Island. River Plate mutton is quoted at Sid. Lamb.—Market quiet, prices slight-, ly weaker. There is little demand, but stocks of New. Zealand lamb on hand are light, and are quoted: sjjd for Canterbury, and 5Jd other than Canterbury brands. River Plate lamb is quoted at 4{-d. Beef.—The market is steady, with moderate inquiry. Hindquarters are , quoted at 33d, forequarters ' 3£d. Supplies of River Plate beef are . heavy. Butter.—The market 'is firm for best quality, owing to short supply. i Is'ow Zjealand • butter is quoted at 1265, [Australian 1235, Argentine 121s, Danish 1295. 1 Cheese.—The market is quiet but steady. The ! demand improving, 1 prices are unchanged. Hemp.—The market is very uncer- ; tain, and busiuess is dull. The de- * mand is chiefly for prompt delivery. Quotations: Good fair grade on spot £26, , I'alir grade on spot £23 10s, fair current Manila on spot £24.'November to December shipments are quoted as follows: —Good fair grade £25 10s, fair grade £23, fair current, Manila £24.. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 27,OOU bales. There is a better demand for cocksloot seed at a reduced price. Bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 78s per cwt. Wool.—Tho market is firmer. There is, a general und active demand. Bradford tops are quoted: 36's low crossbreds yjcl, 40's low crossbreds IOJd, 'l4's medium crossbreds Hid, 50's halfbreds Is 8 l-3d, 56's quarterbreds Is GJd, 60's; merinos Is 10d. Hops.—Aii increasing, demand exists for better grades, and holders are |Uriu. Current quotations: 80s cwt. New Zealand beans.—The market t0 firm, the demand being only moderate at ;S2s 6d per 504 lbs f.a.q. Old crop Partridge peas: Tho market is firm, rwith a hardening tendency at •12s (id«per 504 lbs. Tho grain market is quiet but firm. There is no supply of New Zealand on hand.
