THE FEDERAL CAPITAL.

f SENATE CHOOSES YASSCANBERRA. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT PER UNITED I'ISKSS ASSOCIATION. MELBOURNE, Nov. 0. The Senate balloting on the capital site question was conducted amid a good deal of excitement, and resulted in the choice of the YassConberra, site. The lirst ballot was. a tie between Y'ass and Tumut, each securing 18. This was the outcome of some secret engineering by the supporters of the Dalgety site who, knowing that a certain Victorian intended to vote for Tuiuut, with the idea of afterwards transferring his vote to Y'ass, combined to vote for Tumut, so as to produce a tie. When the tie was announced, the Dalgety men claimed that the whole question was ended, but the President insisted that each of the six sites nominated must be balloted for. The final ballot resulted: Yass-Canberra, 19; Tumut. 17.
