QUEENSTOWN NOTES.

The Tourist Department is at present making extensive improvements in the Hark, gevei'il'huiulml loads of good soil are being carted in, and live men are busy leaking new flower beds, which in a few weeks' lime will considerably beautify the grounds. The bowling giecu is receiving a top-dressing, and will be ready to be played on about the beginning of November. A dozc'ii new seats are under order, and are to be placed in various positions in the Park. A site has been selected for •two new asphalt tennis courts, and the work is to be put in hand shortly. The present post-and-wire fences are to be replaced witli neat picket fences, and a fence is to be run right round the outside of the reserve, mul all paint work is to be renovated.

It is intended to have a drive reudv for tin? incoming season to Moke Loko, which is situated about seven or eight miles from Queonstown towards the head of the lake. The reflections on this lake are wonderful, and the scenery on the way is beautiful. There js also fishing to be had by the angler if lie desires to mil, in the time at Moke LakeThe Mountaineer and .Antrim'are running on thy Lake at present, the traffic at this time of the year not being very heavy. The stevedore of these boats supplies 'a most excellent meal for the travelling public. The Ben Lomond is at present be. ing thoroughly overhauled and painted for the coming season. The motor launch Thelma, owned bv Mr .1. Edgar, junr., is also being overhauled and painted. This boat runs to any part of the lake when required, and is built to hold about forty passengers. The Queenstown Tennis Club held its annua! meeting last Thursday, and the opening day hnu been fixed for tho first Wednesday in October. A match will most likely be arranged with Gore later on in the season, when the Queonstown Club will pay the southern centre a visit. The local Volunteers held their annual social in the Garrison Hall on Wednesday lust. There was a large attendance, fully GO couples taking part. Splendid music was supplied by Miss (iiidgeon (piano) and Messrs Briggs and I-'rnser (cornets), Mr C. i). Dagg capably filling the position of M.C. For those who did not indulge in dancing a portion of one end of the hall was set apart for cards and other gomes. Altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent. An excellently-laid supper was supplied by Mr V. St. Oilier. The Queenstown Band played a. few splendid selections outside the hall before the commencement of the function,
