Per United Press Association. ►NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept, 17. The IVaitara fire was first noticed through a housemaid being awakened by a crackling noise in the hotel, and the fire was located in the dining room. No water being available, the place was soon enveloped in flames. By pulling down the intervening buildings and dynamiting and burning a portion, several premises, including those.of the 'ffaitara Mail,' were saved. The licensee, Capt. Young, lalf of the Otago Buffet, Wellington, is a heavy loser, only having taken possession a fortnight ago, and paying £IBOO for tho lease. The building was owned by Mr D. Leslie, Auckland, and was insured in the joint names of the owner and the Waitara Harbor Board for £9OO in the Sun office. The furniture and stock were insured for £350 in the Sun and £250 in the Commercial Union offices. Capt. Young estimates his loss at £BOO, including £450 personal effects uninsured. The boardvrs are also considerable losers, escaping only in their night-clothes. Dugdalc's stock was insured for £250 in the Sun office, and the building for £IOO in tho South British office. Samson's building had a cover of £2OO in the South British office, and the billiard table of £IOO in the same office ; the stock being uninsured. He estimates his loss in stock at £3OO. The origin of the - -outbreak is a mystery. DUNEDIN, Sept, IS.
Dr Heincmann, aged sixty, died last night from heart failure, sn]wrvening upon an attack of influenza. Deceased was intimately associated with the scholastic institutions of Dunedin.
Helen F. Braid pleaded guilty to giving a false statement to the Registrar of Births at Mosgicl as to the age of her child, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence.
