Recently a well-known settler on this const (says the ' llaiiyi'ikei Advocate ') managed to convey nn effective lesson to an assistant who had shown a tendency towards socialism. The employee had been aij;niny- <n tile injustice of some men obtaining .C 101)0 a year or more for 'heir work, and others only earning jCIOI) or less. Like ;v wise man the employer seid i.'ot hi ntj till shearing was over. Tin l employee, who is all exceptionally ucoj shearer, had shorn a few hundred m ire sheep than his companions, and the employer. before paying for the work, remarked lluit as, according !o his theory, all men with equal s.nd of eipial worth, he intended io divide equally the total amount earned Iv the shearers. it is almost needless to say that the employee made i :.'T-_,-ntir and cliective protest against tin- practical application of socialistic theory. Socialism appears to lie all ,i;;hl when " the other fellow " lias the greater share.
