Sir William McDonald, the Canadian philanthropist, offers to establish and endow at a cost of seven million dollars an experimental farm college for training teachers to educate Canadian youth at farming. A traveller for an Austrian firm placed a bag containing £IO,OOO worth of jewellery on a chair in a chemist's shop at Birmingham. A thief substituted another bag antl decamped. Mr Chamberlain, in a letter to his constituents, says : " The time is coming shortly when I will again ask your confidence. I venture and hope Birmingham will lead tlio way in a great and necessary reform." Si'gnor M'*ireoni was married in London on Thursday to Beatrice, Lord Inchftpiin's sister. Another Austrian gum-digger from New Zealand was victimised by the confidence trick in Melbourne during this week. The police, after a severe struggle, captured the men and recovered the bulk of the money.
