Our correspondent writes ;—A draughts match between Wcndorf and Riversdalo was played in the Uiversdulo Athenaeum on Saturday evening. The night was wet and stormy, consequently a full complement of players •did not put in an upin-aranee. The competitors on either side were very evenly matched ami the play was close and interesting, Wendon winning by the narrow margin of one game. The teams were captained by Messrs John Stevenson (Wendon) and •Joseph .Murdoch (Kivcrsdale). At the conclusion of the match a metaling was held to form a draughts club embracing Riversdalo and Wendon, and the following oflicebearcrs were elected:— President, Mr Joseph Murdoch ; vice-presidents. Messrs J as. Stevenson, Frank Sutherland and John I'.eelon ; secretary, .Mr Jns. I'ateivm. Some fifteen members were enrolled in the room. A return match against Wendon was arranged for Wednesday night, week. The annual concert and ball in aid of (he funds of the Waikoikoi Cricket Club are to be held on Wednesday evening next.
