TAPANUI SHOW.

To the Editor. Sir,—My. attention has just been called to an item in Kelso Jottings (from your own corresixmdent), wherein disparaging ref?rence is made about the Tapanui Farmers' Clnb Anuual Show. "Your own" notifies that the Club intends after all holding a show again* this all'' what? As far as I am aware there has not been any reason even hinted at to cause the cessation of the most popular gathering held yearly in the district. The Tapanui show compares more than favorably with the general run of inland country shows. The judges (especially m the horse classes) can bear me out in saying that for good rings and good ftuality, Tapanui can compete with any country show in Otago. The Club has a nice ground, useful and comfortable buildings unci appointments, a strong members' roll, enthusiastic workers on the executive and general committees, backed up by the support of a goodly array of exhibitors. Why should a correspondent, prenumahly representing a poition of '{"apanui .district, try to belittle any such institutions?- "Your own," after a scries ol comparisons (the latter admitted to be always odious), winds up as ' follows : "Exhibitors lower the status of themselves and their stock in exhibiting where there is no competition." 'Tis a dirty bird that fouls its own nest, and this is not tho first time "Your own" from Kelso has been guilty of throwing cold water on local efforts instead of trying to foster and assist them inyhis capacity as district correspondent. The extract above quoted is happily far removed from fact, and I aiu quite satisfied exhibitors, whether they meet with competition or not, do more to raise the status \pl the land we live in than "Your own" does when he "lets go" against an institution the district has so long and well maintained.—l -urn, etc., B. A. Rodger,, Sec. Tapanui Farmers' Club.
