meeting convened by the Mayor (Mr D. „jrlane) was held in the Gore Borough Council Chambers last evening to consider what steps should be taken to assist in defraying the expense of sending a team from the Fire Brigade to compete at the Napier demonstration next month. Some dozen gentlemen attended, and the Mayor presided. After ft:cussion it was resolved to prepare subscription lists, and to invite contributions from 'townspeople. Should sufficient not be subscribed by that means, an alternative , scheme for a concert and dance was suggested. The Mayi r and Dr Copland were appointed canvassers, and the meeting adjourned till Tueslay evening next. Over £5 was subscribed in the room, and during this morning over £l7 was collected. Donations may slso he left at the Ession office. ' The following is the return of election expenses made by the candidates at the recent election for Mataura: —K. M'Nab, £64 8s 9d; I. W. Baymond, £B3 7s. Dalgety and Co. hold clearing sale of furniture, etc., at Gore on ISsh inst. Mounted Rifles' bail, at Eiversdale, on the 13th. Try Robertson, Gore, for all kinds fruit. Building selections for sale—Jas. Beattie. Mr H. Cameron contradicts the rumor that his candidature is not genuine for seat on Bluff Harbor Board. Gentleman's overcoat lost. The N.M. and A. Co. will offer, at Mataura sale on 12th, sheep, cattle, etc., also borough leases. Mi A. Macdonald tenders thanks. A Cold at This Season is most annoying, and should not be neglected. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy will relieve the lungs, and make expeotoration easy, effect a quick cure end leave,the system in a healthy condition. It always cures and cures quickly.—G. E.
