OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting, held at Dunedin on Tuesday was attended by Messrs D. Barron (chairman), W. Dallas, D. Borrie, T. MaoGibbon, and A. Baldey. The District Engineer of Railways at In veroargill forwarded a memo, stating that as no claim for compensation had been made within five years from 18t*2, for land taken from section 15, block 13, Mataura town, the Commissioners' application could not be considered. The Southland agent reported that he had attended the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court on the 22nd ult. in reference to alleged nuisance at Lumsden, and that the matter was adjourned to allow the magistrate to inspect the locality.—Noted. The Southland agent wrote stating that be had sent a circular to all lessees whose leases expired on 30th April next, suggesting that valuation of the improvements bo made during the month of January current, with a view to having the new leases offered three months before expiry.—Received, and suggestions received. Kenneth McKenzie, lessee of section 5, block 9, Waikaia district, wrote asking to be allowed valuation for plough draining, and also asked for some assistance in protecting his land from overflow of the creek running through it.—Application as to plough draining declined; question of overflow of the creek to be dealt with by the Commissioners when in the district. The Southland agent wrote recommending that section 10, block 15, Town of Gore, be offered for lease with other sections 'vhieh are being leased this year.--Lease to be cancelled, and section to be re-offered as suggested. It was decided to accept surrender of sectians 2 and I V S, block 4, and section 11, block 5, Tuturau, on payment of rent to date, and re-offor tbem for lease at first sale.
