DUNEDIN HORSE MARKET. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report as follow : For this week's sale quite 70 horses were entered, but of this number there was not half a dozen animals worthy of mention. In the draught section there was not a young horse offered, but there were fully a dozen aged " done" animals, which drew but meagre competition from the attending buyers, who were present at the auction in fair numbers, but unfortunately were quite unable to supply their requirements. An aged draught—one of a mob of 13 horses from North Canterbury—was passed in at £44 10s, this offer being in the opinion of his owner not equal to his value. Of the northern horses very few were sold, the reason for this being that the general quality of the animals was hardly that saleable in this market. A rough, unbroken colt, three years old, from the Clutha, found a different owner at £35; and an eight-year-old springvan mare from the Peninsula changed hands at £34. In the lighter classes only a few horses are at all worthy of mention. A rather nice stamp of a buggy mare from the Clutha district was disposed of at £23 10s, and a fair hack, six years old, was sold for £22. In all 15 horses changed hands at prices, taking into consideration their quality and age, quite satisfactory to the various owners. This market could do with a considerable number of good young horses of all classes, but unfortunately very few animals of the stamp and quality readily saleable, and, in fact, badly wanted in this centre, are brought to the yards. We can confidently recommend vendors to consign their spare horses to our care for sale at our weekly auctions, and are sure that the prices realised will be satisfactory. Good, sound, young draught horses suitable for town carting, are in especial demand, and we have numerous inquiries for suitable animals. We quote: Superior young draught geldings £SO to £55, extra good, prize horses, £56 to £6O, medium draught mares and geldings £37 to £4B, aged do £24 to £36, upstanding carriage horses £3O to £35, wellmatched carriage pairs £7O to £9O, strong spring-van horses £3O to £35, milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses £22 to £2B, tram horses £l4 to £2l; light hacks £lO to £l6, extra good hacks £lB to £25, weedy and aged hacks and harness horses £4 to £B.
