OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The usual monthly meeting of the Olago Sch<<<il Commissioners was held yesterday ; present Messrs 1). Harron (chairman), A. Baldey, Thomas Mac'iibbon, W. Dallas, and D. liorrie.
The Assistant Seer'tpry for Education wrote stating that the Government regretted their inability to give effect to the Commissioners' proposal to sell an acre of II! acres situated between section it in, Uokonui, and the Gorc-Luinsdcn r.iinvay lino—Received. The Secretary stated that John Maher and M. A. A. Mahor had not p lid up the amounts due to the Southland County Council for rates, and recommended that if they did not do so liy the 2;trd inst. steps be taken to terminate their occupancy of sections 10 and 17, block 1 , Wendonside.—lt was decided that failing payment the solicitors take action.
B. T. Stewart wrote forwarding a copy of an application imtde by hiii to the Warden at Wuikaia on behalf of Thomas Northooto for a coal license over live acres of land on block 11., Wendon district (run 254n). The Secretary stated tbat he had lodged an objection on the ground that the laud referred to was not under the juris liction of the Warden so far as coal mining was concerned.—Received.
W. K Inder, solicitor, Gore,, wrote calling attention to the titles to lignite ureas belonging to the Commissioners with a view to having the licenses put on a more satisfactory basis than at present.—lt was decided to Burvey a coal area on run '2540, and to offer by auction a leanc for a term of seven years. The following applications to transfer leases were approved:—W. L. Bennetts to Win. Long, section 4, block IX, Wendon; W. " Moflett to Helen Fiaser, sections 3H to it, and sections 47 and 48, blojk I, Marakum township; George Lynch to J. and W. Anderson,section 14, block XIV, Wendon; J. A. McUillivray (Mr D. L. l'oppelwell, agentl to G. A. Perkins, section (i, block XVIII, Wendon. F. Guntzler appeared for a renewal for one year of his coal license in the Wendon district.—A renewal of license refused, as the lessee of the section objected to anyone trespassing on his land.
It was notified that Messr: A Baldey, W. Dallas, and D. Barron had been appointed commissioners by his Excellency the Governor. Mondy, Sim, and Stephens wrote stating that the District Lauds Registrar at lovereargill was prepared to issue a certificate of title for sections SO and HI, block I, Wendon, to the School Commissioners.—Received. It was resolved that Messrß Baldey, MacGibbon, and liorrie inspect a number of sections in blocks VII and X, and run 327 c, Waikaia, with a view to recommending the best method of dealing with them. It was resolved that section (i, block XI, and section 7, block XIII. be vested in the Southland Education Board.
