TRANSVAAL WAR.
London, May Hi. The Boers at Brussels and Amsterdam assert that negotiations have failed through Great Britain refusing an armistice with a view to consult Mr Kruger. Advices received from South Africa, however, state that thu Vereeniging Conference is proceeding. May 17. Arrangements have been made for prompt communication of the decisions of the Vereeniging Conference to Lord Kitchener, with regard to the deliberations will be respected. Voting will bo by ballot. The proceedings are expected to be protracted. An arrangement has been come to not to attack the commandos represented during the progressing of the conference. Lord Milner is at l'retoria. Mr Chamberlain, addresting a meeting of Unionists at Birmidgham, said : " I am hopeful, but not sanguine, that a majority of the ramnant of Boers in the field are convinced of the futility of resistance, but a minority of irreconcilables has often prevailed, and mayinduce the Boer leaders to make absolutely impossible proposals which it would be our duty to reject. The world may rest assured a mistake like Majuba will not be tcpeated. Ministers have aheady stated thoir intentions with reference to the future government and settlement of the territory, and will not Bwerve from them. Mr MacNeill, in the House of Commons, suggested that the murders by the Bush Veldt Carbineers had been committed in obedience to superior orders. Mr Brodrick protested scavenging in the dust heap of the past. Justice had been done, and it was useless to reopen the question. Beplying to the Durban Corporation's address of welcome, I'remier Seddon said that New Zealand desired peace on an everlasting basis. If more men were wanted more would be sent. Mr iitddon had an enthusiastic reception. Kernel's Capetown em respondent states that 100 Boers were captured, including Km rebels, in a drive to the Bechuanaland blockhouses.
