DUNEDIN HORSE MARKET.

Messrs Wbioht, Stephenson and Co. report as follows : — • From a quantity point of view, there was a good turn out of horses for this week's sale, and, us far as qualitity was concerned, the two extremes met, the entries including some really first-class Clydesdale fillies — we refer specially to Mr J. R. Mackenzie's consignment from Glenkenich — and a number of very indifferent olass, mostly -aged and otherwise faulty from other vendors. There was a splendid muster of buyers, both town and country, kcon after good young horses, and excellent prices were obtained for every suitable animal that was oilered to-day ; indeed, many buyers from a distance had to ieave the yard without supplying their wants. Good draught mares and geldings, four to seven years old, aro badly wanted by carriers, and town contractors are sorely in need of powerful shatters — seasoned, staunch horses, not over seven years old. On Friday, at Mr David Murray's clearing sale, we sold his prize gelding at the record price of £05, and to-day Mr Mackenzie's fillies brought the following very satUfactory prices: Bay filly, Bess, rising five years, by Wallace (imp.) from a Sir Colin (Gowiie) mare, £03 *, brown filly, rising four years, by Sir Alexander (imi\), out-of a St. Albyn (imp.), mare, £00; bay filly rising five years, by Young Clansman, £50 ; and a very active spring van mare, six years old (a grand goer), £40 10s. About 20 other useful draught mares and geldings, most of them on the aged side, changed hands at from £21 to £36. Of light harness horses and hacks nothing good was submitted, and in consequence no business was effected, as inferior light horses are unsaleable at present. Wo quote : Superior young draught geldings, £45 to £55 ; extra good prize horses, £50 to £00; medium draught mares and geldings, £35 to £42 ; aged do, £21 to £30 ; ifpslanding carriage horses, £25 to £30; well-matched carriage pairs, £00 to £70 ; strong spring-van horses, £32 to £38 ; milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses, £1-5 to £22 ; tran'i horses, £0 to £14 ; light hacks £7 to £10 ; extra good backs £18 to £25 ; weedy and aged backs and harness' horses, £2 to £5.
