Sydney, Dec. 2. Intense heat is being experienced in the country! To-day was the hottest December day in Sydney for 28 years'. • The thermometer registered 102 in the shade. Two more outbreaks of fire occurred at Wyalong. Incendiarism is suspected and two men have been arrested. Several more destructive fires have occurred in the country. Large sawmills and the electric lighting plant at ,Narrabri • were burned. Bishop Julius, interviewed, said that whereas in Victoria there was heavy betting and gambling in N.Z.the worst forms of gambling had disappeared under the totalisator, but it was almost universal. There women bet as freely as men. On the whole he feared the totalisator was a great school of gambling. Melbourne, Dec. 2. A young electrician named Lovering has been arrested in connection with the attempts to wreck a train. He confessed. Another youth named Johnson was also arrested as an accomplice, and he too confessed. A search of Lovering's home revealed a number of bombs in process of manufacture and stencillplates with the word "Anarchist." A> daring highway robbery- has occurred near Bulherglen.
