TOKONUI JOTTINGS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Wo bave had a visit from Mr Buckingham, who is just now touring the Mataura electorate, lecturing in the interests of the no-license movement. On Sunday last he conducted * the service here, when there was a good attendance, his address to the young people being put in such a way as te claim their ■attention throughout, and on his questioning them on what lie had told them, the answers were given readily and correctly. Mr Buckingham is an excellent singer, with a power-- . ful voice.' This in no small measure tends to make his meetings, on Sundays and lectures during the week so successful. At bis lecture on Mondiy evening the schoolhouse was crowded. I understand that after he has „ gone over the Waikawa and' surrounding " districts, Mr Buckingham will be located for a time at Invercargill. The local dairy factory is now in full swing. The milk supply is fairly good so, far. Many of the cows, however, are late in coming in, but it is anticipated that the output will exceed that of last season. Mr Earwaker was unfortunate in losing one of his best cows through milk fever. The wet weather, lately, with cold winds, has kept back the grass. We want some warmth now to set things agoing.. ■ , ." ■ Mi McEwan got his flaxmill at " work fully , a> month ago. The weather has been backward for getting the fibre dry, otherwise die venture is a success. I believe that Messrs Pasooe Bros, are sow - making preparations, aud expect to have another flaxmill at work tiere very soon. Both Mr McEwan's and Messrs .Poscoe's are worked by water power.. There is also a possibility of a traction engine being put on here and a sawmill started before the summer. - ■: is over. .; ' " . . -. \; - ■" '■ . - » . " ■ ' •■ ' -M.r-*
