DREDGE PATENTS.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sib, — I notice that Mr Perry's manager bas patented a mud stirrer driven off the outside of the bottom tumbler shaft. ' This has been in general use for some time and if not patented before, having been in. use, the patent does not hold good. I had ordered one, before I saw the notice of,. its having been patented and if Messrs Parsons and Grey object I can invent a simpler 'and better mud stirrer. I have also a never-failing brake and pawl whjch does away with the risk of the winch hand getting hurt under the old pawl and ratchet system, and will be able to show it at work on the Waimumu shortly, — I am, etc.,

G. H. MacKenzie,

Waimumu, August- 13,
