GORE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Monday, AoonsT 15.
The Council met at the usual hour. Present — The Mayor (Dr J. .Copland),"Councillors Mac Gibbon, Thorn, Latham, Ballintine, and McFarlane.
COIIBEBPONDENCE,
The Commissioner of Taxes notified that £167 3s 9d subsidy due to the Council was now payable. — Received.
A circular from the Wairarapa North County Council re Hospital and Charitable Aid matters was received.
An application to place the name of A. J. Pope on the "burgess roll, in respect of section 13, block 16, was referred to the Finance Committee to grant if found in order. Airs A. Dolamore directed the attention of the Council to the drain, footpath and watertable on the, north side of Albany street, all of which required' attention.— Refened to the Works Committee with power to act. Mr W. F. Inder, on behalf of J. C. Bryant, made a claim of £1,0 against the Council, damages sustained by the electric light going out in the Town Hall while a theatrical performance was going on.— Council disclaims any responsibility. ' .
REPORT.
The Works' Committee reported, recommending that Mr Geo. Penny be allowed to take 20 loads of earth from the side of the road at the corner of Maitland Btreet, going north. Not more than 18 inches to be cut from the edge next the road, and the ground to be left at a proper bottom ; (2) thatßroughton street' ditch be cleaned out, going south at the same depth, as the part which has been cleaned near the saleyards, and (3) that planks on the floor of the traffic bridge be repaired as required from time to time.
MISCELLANEOUS,
It was resolved that, in future the. Council empower the Mayor or clerk (or any other person specially mentioned) authorised by the Council, on behalf of the Council, to accept the tender of a 9ontractor for a specified contract, conditionally on his paying the prescribed deposit, signing the plans, specifications, general conditions and agreement, on or before a date to be named.
Councillor Mac Gibbon mentioned the matter of the obstruction in the street, near the new buildings in Main and Mersey streets, and moved that the contractor be notified to clear away the material within three days. — Seconded by Councillor Ballintine and carried.
The Clerk intimated that the following vacancies had occurred by effluxion of- time : —North Ward, Councillor Baker; South Ward, Councillor Thorn ; East Ward, Councillor Simpson. In addition to these an election would be required to fill the vacancies caused bythe resignations of Councillors Inder and Carmody.
After discussion on other matters the Council adjourned. '
