Gore A. and P. Association

COMMITTEE MEETING. A fully attended nKPtinc of the Gore A. and )'. Association Committee was held on Satuiil'iy under the presidency of Mr Adiiin Fleming. luvirati'tis for the President aid Secretary to'attt-nd the Otago and ClnUia Shows were receivd, aud it >mis resolved to reply thanking the Associations for their courtesy, it being further di-cid. d to issue invitations to the Presidents and Secretaries of kindred Societies throughout the district to attend the Gore' Summer Show. Messrs Brown, Ewing and Co., Dunedin, forwarded a donation of a handsome silver onp for competition at the show. — Donors to be thanked for their gift. , An account of £3 from T. Adams was j passed for payment. | On Mr Macara's motion, it was resolved to erect a permanent ticket office at the entrance to the Show grounds. Mr W. F. Ward proposed that Messrs Johnston, Inder, Hunter, and the mover be a committee to wait on the Wyndham A. and P. Association and the Gore Farmers' Club with a view to their merging with the Gore A. add P. Association. From what he could see of the future of agricultural exhibitions in the province, he thought in time to come there would ouly be one show between Dunedin and Invercargill— at Gore. He considered it was highly desirable that they should make overtures to the Wyudham Association with a view to amalgamation, and this accomplished, would be better for all parties concerned. Rpgnrfling th« Gore Farmers' Cluh, the speaker thought, it . was superfluous th»t two bodi s should exist in the town for the same object, viz , of fostering the agricultural industry. It was the old fable of the bundle of sticks— divided they were weak, but united they could ov rcome great difficulties. He would admit that the Farmers' Club had done, and was still doing, good work for the district, but, for all that, its aims and objects could be as well carried out under the auspices of the A. and P. Association. If at any time any special grievance required redress they could appoint a vigilance committee to attend to the matter. — Mr loder seconded the proposition. Mr T. Green agreed that it was a good move to endeavor to get lh« Wyndhum A. and P. Association to merge with the Gore institution, but thought it scarcely advisable to aim at absorbing the Gore Farmers' Club. That body was a power in the laud, aud might want to duminate the Association, which would make them very sorry they took the Club under their wing. Mr Milne thought they should attend to the matter of amalgamating with Wyndham and leave the Farmers' Club for another time. He moved as an amendrneut that overtures re amalgamation be made only to the Wyndham A. and P. Association. — Mr Green seconded. The amendment was lost, and the original motion carried. Trie Secretary was instructed to reply to the Gore Gymnasium and Technical Classes Association, stating that the matter ef erecting a hall would be considered by the Association in January. The treasurer (Mr J. D. Hunter) intimated that in accordance with the recommendation of tho auditors, and a resolution by the Association, he had procured a new set of books of account. — Treasurers action approved. It was resolved to invite tenders immediately for ploughing up and "sowing the grounds after the Show. A long discuss ! .on ensued as to railway charges on stock exhibited at shows, and several members made reference to the fact that should an exhibitor, living at a distance, send his stock to and from the. show over the railway, he was allowed a rebate on the charges for, the return journey. If, however, he sold any of the' stock in the interval between sending the animals to the show and bringing them back again afterwards, the rebate was, for some reason, not allowed by the authorities. Mr D. Dun., jun., undertook to bring up a resolution bearing* on the subject at next meeting, and the matter dropped. It was resolved to advertise that the privileges in connection with the Show would be sold by auction on Wednesday, 17th inst. This concluded the business, aud the meeting adjourned.
