Waikaia Public School.

i ANNUAL CONCERT. The annual school concert took place on Friday evening last. The chairman (Mr Colin Robertson), in his opening address, congratulated the teacher and his staff on the highly successful results of the recent examinations, and remarked that great credit was due to both parents and children for the very regular attendance recorded during the twelve months. The concert items were rendered chiefly by local talent with the pxception of Messrs Brannigan and Carroll (Gore), both of whom were much appreciated, and received an encore to each of their songs. Much interest was evinced in the performances of the school children themselves — especially in the Maypole Danes, which showed that Miss Brown had trained the children with the utmost care and.attention. Miss Ethel Sproftt and Miss Florence Taylor deserve special mention for the very spirited manner in which they rendered " You Shan't Play in Our Yard " and the duet received a hearty recall. Refreshments were handed round at the close of the entertainment, to which the children especially did- ample justice. The usual dance followed, and as the receipts totalled close on £15, the committee are to be congratulated on the splendid success of the whole affair. — Own correspondent.
