The son of oae of the Ardgowan settlers was crossing a paddock, when a horse, resenting the intrusion of the stranger, seized the youth by his nether garments, and dropped him over the fence. The number of bicycles imported into New Zealand last year was 1770, valued at £20,000. In 1892 the number was only 342, of the value of £4525. The duty is 20 per cent ad valorem. Taranaki has had an exceptionally mild winter so far. There have been only two frosts, and those so mild that not the slightest injury was done the young crops. This season's grass is already over 6 inches high. During the boisterous weather they had only a little rain. Tapanui Racing Club have assets (property £224, cash £102 and unpaid entries) amounting to £336 6s, and no liabilities. Mr R. A. Rodger has been elected president for the year.
