The riot commenced with the approach - - of a drag containing a number of Orangey ; men. They were" mobbed: and the colors " torn_ from their breasts. As the different parties came along they "wero violently \ attacked with stones, knocked down "and .. badly used. Free fights among the crowd;., became gonerai. JFor three hours the battle.-' raged and maDy were injured by sliowers of.: stones, but none seriously. One woman had - a narrow' escape and was only : saved ;l>y*a : number of men forming a circle and beating . off the mob. Fifty police wero unable, to cope with the rioters, but a number of Arrests - were made after the rioters dispersed.
