At mostsbows, where tbe professional breeders exhibit, one can gener- ' ally write down the list of. prizes before the. judges begin their duties. At Gore one at' least had tho novelty of seeing fresh stock. V - The Bhow of cattle was very poor, a faot to be deplored in 'suoh' a,fine grazing country, and in a district where' dairying is oarried to " --••-• such a pitoh. Dairy produce was better than at Dunedin. - Ay. There were some st_jaj» cla-sass, and some excellent samples cffßitter shown. Ths whole display was^ot^qp in better style thanafe auy show inthe South Island this year, . A: and the stewards of the claas-^Mes-u-s Hunter ' : and Poppelwell— deserve high praise for the 7 ■ s manner, in which tbis section was arranged. ■> '' At too many of the .shows I bave visited': '-v butter has been a -much-neglected exhibit, ;?S but if shows are to have any practical value 7 v7--lesß attention must •be given • to.
