Latest particulars skow that Dr Jameson's force, which consisted, only of 460 men, fought the Boers, who numbered 2700, fop 36 hours, and only surrendered when the last cartridge had- been expended. Dr Jameson and his men were expecting aid from a f oroo. ; of 2000 TTitlanders, and had arrived within sis miles of Johannesburg. The casualties on Dr Jameson's side consisted, of 180 killed - and 37 wounded. Thirty officers attached to'Dr Jamyionialoroe, and who were not wounded, are rV^prisonedin Pretoria. Mr Cecil Rhodes 488. resigned the Premiership of Cape Colony, and has been succeeded by Sir Gordon Sprigg, the Treasurer of the colony. Things generally in the Transvaal are now comparatively quiet, - all parties awaiting the development of events. Cape public opinion in the first instance condemned" Jameson -Tor precipatating events, but he is now regarded as the victim of money-grabbing Uitlanders. ' The Queen' j proclamation, paralysed the National-Committee at Johannesr burg. General Jouberfc proposed an armistice when Jameson was approaching Johannesburg, which it is reported the Uitlanders accepted. They afterwards, however, sent help to Jameson, but only at the very moment of his surrender,
